COURSE DETAILS: In this engaging and interactive class, students will explore a variety of card games that develop critical thinking, strategic planning, memory, and quick decision-making skills. We will learn and play games such as Slapzi, That's Not a Hat, For Sale, MishyMatch, What's the Point, Nertz, Golf, 3Up, Up and Down the River, Sevens, and Taboo. Each game will introduce different thinking strategies, including pattern recognition, logical reasoning, probability assessment, teamwork, and reflex-based responses.

In addition to learning and playing card games, students will engage in STEM challenges using a deck of cards. These hands-on activities will incorporate principles of physics, engineering, and math, encouraging problem-solving and experimentation. Challenges may include building the tallest or strongest card tower, exploring probability through shuffled decks, and designing logic puzzles based on card patterns.

The final project will challenge students to apply their creativity and problem-solving skills by inventing their own original card game. Students will design and create a custom deck of cards, develop a set of rules, and film an instructional video explaining how to play. This project will enhance communication skills, artistic expression, rule-based thinking, and presentation abilities.

By the end of the course, students will not only have a collection of fun and competitive card games to enjoy but will also have strengthened their analytical thinking, adaptability, teamwork, and STEM skills.
