Art: From Classics to Canvas
Bringing Literary Classics to Life through Fine Art

Prerequisites: Students must be able to copy a basic step-by-step drawing as demonstrated by the teacher.

Ages: 6+ (12:30) 8+ (all morning classes)

Class size:  6-16

Materials Fees: $40 - one-time fee includes a art material (undecided) and spiral bound sketchbook for each student.

Supplies Needed: none.

Homework: None. High school students may earn .5 credits if they complete the 32 hours of class time and spend an additional 28 hours drawing or painting at home.

COURSE DETAILS: Step into a world where stories jump off the page and onto the canvas! In this dynamic art course, students will embark on a creative journey through the greatest treasures of literature. From the noble, snow-capped woods of Narnia to the whimsical, rhyming worlds of Dr. Seuss, we will explore the themes of courage, truth, and wonder that point us back to the Ultimate Author.

What We’ll Be Doing
This isn’t just a "coloring" class—it’s a hands-on exploration of professional mediums! Each week, we’ll dive into a new story and a new technique, including:

• Whimsical Illustrations: Master the art of the "wiggly line" using fine-line pens and markers inspired by Dr. Seuss.

• Atmospheric Landscapes: Create the misty lamppost of Narnia using charcoal and blending tools to play with light and shadow.

• Vibrant Characters: Bring heroes to life with the precision of watercolor pencils, learning how to layer and wash colors for a painterly finish.

• Mixed Media Magic: Combining textures to tell a story in every frame.
