MOTION AND MACHINES WITH K’NEX

Teacher: Mrs. Jessica Pullara
Prerequisites: None
Ages: 7-9
Class size: 8-12
Materials Fee: $30.00 (includes copies and class supplies)
Tuition: $60.00 (as this is a two-hour class)
Supplies Needed: None

COURSE DETAILS: In this hands on science and engineering class, students will explore the amazing
ways God designed our world to move and work. Using colorful K’NEX building pieces, children will learn
important physics ideas in a playful and age-appropriate way. Throughout the year, students will investigate
what force and motion are, how speed and velocity work, why gravity pulls things down, how energy helps
objects move, and Newton’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Laws of Motion (explained through simple demonstrations and
fun building challenges). Students will also explore simple machines and learn how they make work easier.
Through guided builds, students will experiment with levers, wedges, inclined planes, wheels and axles,
pulleys, and screws. The class ends with a final project, where each student designs and builds their own
simple machine.
