Prerequisites: Must be able to match pitch, enjoy singing and working in a group, and be committed to
memorizing music and lines and learning basic choreography.

Supplies Needed: 3-ring binder, 2 different-colored highlighters, pencil, and a device to play downloaded
music.

Homework: Songs, lines, and choreography memorization throughout the year, and
practice at home.

 

COURSE DETAILS: TThis course is intended to be a fun vocal technique workshop class with a
musical theatre production in the spring! I will use various techniques from my many years of vocal training
to improve range, pitch, tone, and breath control. I will create a fun, safe, and comfortable environment to
help students build confidence as they work through songs that best suit their voices. In the beginning, we
will workshop songs by popular Christian artists, and students will learn to listen to each other and blend
and build harmonies as they grow their vocal gifts for the Lord. In mid-fall, we will begin working on the
musical! In the spring, students will perform the 2023 mini-musical Backstab: The Musical by Marlene
Dickinson with Faith Based Student Musicals. The biblical theme and source for this musical are: Speaking
the Truth in Love, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil.” “…by speaking the truth with love, let’s grow in every
way into Christ.” Eph. 4:15; Rom 12:17.
An alternate musical will be chosen if enrollment requires it. If enrollment isn’t full enough to fill parts in the
musical, students will put together a night of worship to start our spring performances and may also do this
along with the musical if time allows.
